Liliana Carrano

Master's Level Counseling Intern, Level 1 Trained in Natural Lifemanship (Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy)

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

Liliana joined Take Heart in the Spring of 2024. Since childhood, she has felt drawn to working with animals. Growing up in a rural area, animals were often more plentiful than people, and she found peace in the quiet, undemanding acceptance of pet and farm animals. Drawn to horses but without the ability to own one or access one regularly, Liliana spent many of her younger years volunteering at friend’s barns and participating in 4-H activities for horseless kids. Working with animals and being outdoors provided Liliana with a sense of self-confidence and efficacy, as well as an escape from the pressures of school and family expectations, and she always hoped to incorporate this into her future career in some way – considering options such as a veterinarian, wildlife biologist, or animal trainer.

As a teenager, life circumstances took away her ability to work with horses. Her own life difficulties during this period drew her to the desire of helping people, especially kids and teens, in her future career. While excited about this, she assumed that this meant leaving her childhood dream of working with animals and in the outdoors behind. Liliana feels very blessed to have found the perfect combination of her childhood and current dreams at Take Heart! She is excited to share her passion for the healing power of horses with clients.

Liliana is currently completing her master’s degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling (MA) at Lancaster Bible College and is a master’s level intern with Take Heart. She is currently undergoing training in Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy through the Natural Lifemanship Institute.  While she hopes to work with a variety of clients, she specializes in working with kids and teens struggling with family issues and individuals struggling with anxiety and depressive symptoms. She is especially passionate about helping individuals develop increased understanding of themselves and God while also working towards making positive changes in their lives, resolving past traumas and growing in self-worth.

When she isn’t working at Take Heart, Liliana enjoys gardening, baking, stargazing, reading, and swimming with her Australian Shepherd, Talli.

What Horses Did For Me...

Horses have taught me in a unique way of how God sees me: Worthy of unconditional love, even on the days I don’t feel like it. They have taught me that love doesn’t mean getting run over or running another over, but mutual understanding and care of the other that requires you to do what is right for the relationship. Horses have and are teaching me how to trust another individual to listen and care for my needs, as well as being able to listen well to the needs of another. Horses have taught me how to have a voice, and that my voice is worth hearing.
