The story we were told is that Boone was an Amish driving horse turned eventer. His owner was afraid to ride him so paid a trainer to ride him, and it seemed to us that the trainer just taught him to GO. Boone was so sweet and willing to please and we quickly fell in love, despite his speediness. Not long after arriving, we learned that Boone was afraid of the kissing sound and believe that he was probably whipped and kissed at when driven. Four weeks at Take Heart, Boone showed up terribly lame, and we discovered he had high and low ringbone and sidebone – essentially from hard use and concussion on hard surfaces such as the road. We were told he would have good and bad days the rest of his life. Devastated, we rested and treated Boone, but thankfully, he healed and has not had any pain since then!
Boone is working through his nervousness and compliance and learning to really connect beautifully. He is an amazingly sweet horse and is so gentle and safe with all ages. Boone is sometimes the outcast in the herd but gets along peacefully with everyone. As he builds confidence, Boone is more playful and curious with toys and props in the rings and developing friendships in the herd. Boone’s word from God is “keep growing.”
