Kim has loved horses all her life and has had the opportunity to learn and grow with horses. She has benefited from knowing and having horses and they have been among the most important, special relationships in her life! It is such a blessing to be able to combine a love of horses with doing therapy.
Prior to working at Take Heart Counseling, Kim held various positions starting as an art teacher and graphic designer, and later after obtaining a master’s degree, became a licensed marriage and family therapist. She furthered her studies and is certificated in Natural Lifemanship trauma-informed, equine assisted psychotherapy as both a therapist and equine professional. She has worked with foster care and adopted youth and their families as well as provided therapy to children, individuals, couples, and families.
She enjoys and specializes in working with children through adults who have experienced complex trauma and have attachment difficulties, as well as depression, anxiety, BPD, PTSD, ADHD, and those having difficulties in their relationships. She also has training in Theraplay and TBRI.
Partnering with a horse in the therapy process helps foster healing in an experiential way. Horses have a way of showing people how to trust and have healthy boundaries and relationships. As one builds a relationship with them, they will learn how to work through issues and then be able to transfer new learned relational skills to their human ones. Healing takes place within the context of a safe, attuned, and connected relationship.
Kim and the horses at Take Heart offer a safe and supportive environment where one can explore areas in their life and work on healing!
When Kim is not working with horses or doing therapy, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, nature, hiking, gardening, art, and traveling!
